A Guide to Boob Job – The Popular Types and Shapes of Implants

Did you know that saline breast implants have been in use since 1976? That’s the same year when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) started regulating medicinal devices. Implants are considered to be therapeutic goods under the Therapeutic Goods Act (1989), which was introduced in February 1991. Recently, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) started pushing Gold Coast to make it the “cosmetic surgery capital of the world”. So, prior to opting for a boob job, you must know about the types of implants available in Gold Coast. Breast implants are of many types. Read about them here.

Types and Shapes of Implants for a Good Boob Job

Gold Coast in Queensland was initially only known for its high sun rise and luxury hotels. Nowadays, a large number of tourists visit the region for boob jobs. Following are the most popular types of implant procedures offered by reputed Gold Coast breast implant surgeons:

Types of Implants

  • Saline implants

Saline implants are made up of empty rubber silicone sacks with textured outer surface. They are implanted in the breast in a deflated form and later, the saline solution is filled inside the breast prosthesis. The implants are available in a tear drop or round shape, and are good for women having lesser sub muscular breast tissue. Saline implants require small incisions, hence lead to the formation of small surgical scars compared to silicone implants. However, cases of leakage and breakage of implant shells are generally reported which requisite further surgery.

  • Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are made of rubber sack of silicone filled with cohesive and semi-solid gel. This eliminates chances of silicone migration and gel leakage inside the breast. Due to consistency and firmness of the gel, these implants offer better shaped breasts. Lower cases of shell rupture and gel leakage have been reported in Cohesive Silicone gel Breast Implants in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery, written by Brown and Shenker (2005). However, the surgical scars in case of silicone implants stay longer than post-filled saline implants.
